The publication – coordinated by the Servizio archeologia dell’Ufficio dei beni culturali – is devoted to the settlement finds from the Muralto area and their regional contextualisation between the Early Imperial and Late Roman periods.
An introductory chapter setting out the research framework is followed by a contribution dedicated to geomorphology and hydrology, an essential foundation for situating the archaeological site and, more generally, the Locarno area within a natural landscape.
A substantial part of the publication presents the study of the individual excavation units and the phasing of the finds. A large section is devoted to the presentation
of certain classes of archaeological materials. Based on the finds from the Park Hotel 2 unit, it was possible to study everyday pottery, for which a specific classification was developed covering the Augustan and Late Roman periods.
The study concludes with a section summarising the historical context and the evolution of the settlement, followed by general considerations on the population dynamics of the upper Verbano area.
