AGUS – GPS

The aim of the Working Group for Prehistoric Research in Switzerland (AGUS-GPS) is to promote the exchange of information and cooperation between individuals and institutions working in pre- and protohistoric research.

The medium and long-term development of pre- and protohistoric research is a central concern of the AGUS and is nourished by cooperation with other archaeological working groups and the association Swiss Archaeology. The AGUS-GPS also represents the concerns of pre- and protohistoric research vis-à-vis politicians and authorities and engages in the solution of coordinative tasks on a national scale.

As a professional association, the AGUS-GPS currently unites about 300 active archaeologists and researchers. The members inform the working group about important discoveries, ongoing and prospective scientific projects, and job offers. The AGUS-GPS holds an annual colloquium in March on current pre- and protohistoric research in Switzerland. Periodic thematic colloquia lasting several days complement the range of activities.

Membership is reserved for professionals, usually with a degree. After submitting the membership form, new members are admitted at the General Assembly during the annual colloquium.
