What we do
We convey well-founded information and current research results on archaeology in Switzerland.
With its diverse publications, SA contributes to the communication of research results and the promotion of Swiss archaeology throughout Switzerland and internationally.
With our quarterly journal arCHaeo Suisse we communicate the most exciting and current topics in Swiss archaeology. The scientific Annual Review of Swiss Archaeology publishes basic research on Swiss Archaeology and annual finds reports from the cantons.
Our newsletter and social media provide information on the latest topics and news from Swiss Archaeology.
Swiss Archaeology publishes monographs and series, such as the bilingual handbooks «Switzerland from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages SPM» and the scientific monograph series «Antiqua». Swiss Archaeology also runs a specialised library and an archive.
We promote public awareness of archaeology and broad participation in archaeological heritage.
With its annual programme, Swiss Archaeology offers its members and all interested parties exclusive events in a wide variety of formats and in all regions of Switzerland. We want to interest a diverse audience in archaeology and make it a tangible experience. With our newsletter, our social media and with our journal arCHaeo Suisse we offer access to archaeological topics to all interested parties.
In politics and society, we actively advocate for the concerns of archaeology and cultural heritage.
The most pressing issues of our time, such as climate change or renewable energies, also affect archaeology. The archaeological cultural heritage is under increasing pressure from ever new legislative proposals and declining public funding.
As a nationwide NPO, Swiss Archaeology campaigns for the interests of archaeology primarily at the federal level. This political work is more important today than ever.
We strengthen archaeological sciences in Switzerland.
Swiss Archaeology promotes the next generation of students.
With our projects, publications and events, we network the local, regional and national players in Swiss Archaeology and coordinate joint activities. We also cultivate relations with European partners.
Swiss Archaeology discusses current specialist topics of overarching interest at the scientific events in our annual programme.
